The Sanchaya is a simply stunning property with old world charm but all the attentiveness and authenticity you would expect during an Indonesian five star stay.

The rooms are beautifully appointed and walls adorned with traditional art, individual to each suite. There are only 30 rooms, from private on lagoon villas up to a four bedroom residence with 24 hour butler and private pool. An indulgent spa and modern gym for those who like to partake. The wine cellar and on estate sommelier are fabulous touches, the bar staff I got to know all had extensive history at some wonderful global bars, amazing curated cocktail menu! There are plenty of on site activities and mostly included with your stay, or very flexible Bintan experts available to tailor make something for you.

The pool area is outstanding and large enough to not feel crowded even when it’s busy (but remember only 30 rooms) right by the beach and surrounded by lush gardens.

I could not fault the menu and the service was impeccable. I chatted with the head chef one evening and his resume is very impressive too, every meal was amazing.

A trip to Sanchaya is made so much easier with their own check in lounge at the ferry terminal on Bintan, you are met on arrival and taken to wait in absolute comfort while they sort out your entry visa, check you in for your stay then transfer you to paradise. I absolutely recommend Emerald class on the Bintan Ferry, they have a basic lounge in Singapore to use, express embarking and disembarking, really comfortable seats for the ferry crossings. I’ve picked out the ferry seats I would recommend and the services to connect you to where you need to go on arrival in Singapore (on call options impossible!)

While Sanchaya is set up perfectly for absolute relaxation, the property and Bintan itself has so much to offer those looking for a little more adventure. To me, it’s Bali without the bs!
